The Brambleton Public Safety Center serves as the headquarters for the Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office as well as housing engines, advanced life support ambulances, and bomb disposal equipment. The facility has two apparatus bays, bunkrooms, kitchen and dining areas, decontamination and laundry facilities, office and conference workspaces, and repair shop space.

Windward provided LEED fundamental commissioning services that included design reviews, generating commissioning specifications, performing submittal reviews, observing installation, witnessing duct and pipe pressure and leakage tests, witnessing equipment start-ups, performing two seasons of performance verification, and witnessing the training and demonstration sessions.

The HVAC systems included a geothermal well field, pumps, and horizontal ceiling hung ground source heat pumps. Rooftop energy recovery units were utilized to provide ventilation air to the return of each ground source heat pump. A water-to-water heat pump was installed to provide hot water to the apparatus bay radiant floor slabs. Gas-phase filtration units were installed in the apparatus bay to remove vehicle exhaust gases and particulates, and a CO/NO2 sensor was used to energize an additional exhaust ventilation system.

This project is LEED Silver certified.
