Windward was tasked with providing updated engineering services for a 141,000 SF building that was constructed in 1942 as well as an 44,100 SF addition Windward designed a new building management system to serve both the new addition and existing building. The new BMS replaced the outdated automatic temperature controls in the existing building as well as incorporated energy saving strategies such as demand control ventilation and optimal start/stop of existing equipment. The new BMS is connected to the
campus system.
The Carpenter Sports Building is a 141,000 SF building that was constructed in 1942, and houses basketball courts, fitness rooms, an NCAA competitive indoor natatorium, volleyball courts, offices, and miscellaneous space. Windward provided MEP, fire protection, fire alarm, lighting, telecommunication, and security engineering services for a 44,100 SF addition and renovations to the existing building to upgrade the building systems.
Windward was also responsible for designing the replacement of the chilled water and steam piping from the central plant utilities into the building. The new addition was provided with water conserving plumbing fixtures with the goal of reducing the water consumption by at least 20% of the baseline water consumption that would be mandated by the EPA Act of 1992.
