The Aramark Student Training and Recreation (STAR) complex serves the needs of the College of Public Health, athletics, and campus recreation. It offers classroom and lab space, a 10,000 SF weight and cardio area, a 70-yard indoor turf field, a climbing wall, a juice bar, and a 2-lane track outside the building as well as administrative offices.
Windward provided MEP and fire protection engineering, as well as tele/data, security, and lighting design along with commissioning services for a new 110,000 SF multi-use facility. Our team designed the extension of the chilled water and steam systems to support the new indoor athletic recreation facility and the future development of the University’s athletic complex.
Lighting features include the backlighting of a translucent wall containing the Temple logo at one end of the indoor turf field. The other was in the main lobby where a single-track lighting system provided both white-up light for ambient illumination and color-changing LED track heads that provide colorful splashes of light on the rock climbing walls.
Energy-efficient LED light fixtures were used throughout with less frequently used back-of-house spaces receiving energy-efficient fluorescent light fixtures as a cost-saving.
This facility achieved LEED Silver certification.
