Windward provided MEP engineering as well as lighting, fire alarm, and telecommunication design services for the new 13,000 SF fire station. The fire station is a single-story facility with an apparatus bay, ready gear, commercial kitchen, administrative areas, bunk rooms, and locker areas.
The mechanical system design for the station includes heat pumps with gas heating coils to serve the administrative, kitchen, bunk, and locker areas while the ready gear area utilizes an energy recovery unit. The plumbing system design includes a new municipal water supply for the station and uses low-flow type or waterless type fixtures. A compressed air system was provided for use in the apparatus bay. The fire protection and fire alarm designs for the station include a complete coverage fire sprinkler system and fire alarm system. The electrical power system design includes a new medium voltage electrical service as well as an emergency generator. The telecommunication system design includes a new voice/data infrastructure throughout the station as well as an automatic fire alarm and communications system.
