The project involves the identification of energy retrofit opportunities for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) 19 buildings (combined GSF of 2.2M) located in Prior Lake, Minnesota. The buildings in the study include a variety of space types like the casino, convention center, event center, museum, convenience store, ice arena, hotel, offices, maintenance workshops, greenhouses, commercial laundry facilities, bottling plant, wastewater reclamation facility, and water treatment plant. The assessment includes analyzing each building’s energy use and developing a benchmark energy use intensity value for each building. The benchmark value will be used to decide where the team will focus their attention the most to reduce the SMSC energy by 50% in 2035.
The project includes an assessment of the existing building envelope, mechanical, electrical, specialty lighting controls, plumbing engineering, and process water systems.
The analysis will include developing a list of energy conservation measures and working with a general contractor for cost estimations and return on investments. The project will provide a pathway for SMSC to work toward their decarbonization goal along with Net Zero Energy goals using renewable sources to offset their energy consumption.
