Windward’s lighting studio team spearheaded this one-of-a-kind enhancement project that was constructed under a federal highway grant administered through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. In concert with the lighting team, our civil engineers and landscape designers prepared design alternatives for approval by the City of Harrisburg and the Mayor.

The scope of improvements included the removal of the existing light fixtures on the bridge and the installation of historic-style fixtures intended to restore the bridge to its original splendor. Recessed lighting on the interior of the stone arches of the bridge created a new “glow” to the riverfront nightscape of the City. The pedestrian plaza at the intersection of Front and Market Streets was completely refurbished. Detailed attention to the color, pattern, and type of pavers was used in the plaza design, as well as historically correct landscape enhancements.
